Man Killed, Two Suspects Arrested in SoMa Shooting 2026
A man was fatally shot in San Francisco's SoMa district late Friday. Two suspects were arrested, marking the city's 13th homicide of 2026.
A man was shot and killed late Friday night in SoMa, and two suspects were arrested within hours of the attack that also left two other people assaulted, according to the San Francisco Police Department.
Officers responded to the area of Harrison and Third streets at 11:12 p.m. Friday and found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Two additional victims had been assaulted but not shot. Officers provided aid at the scene before paramedics transported the shooting victim to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The intersection sits about a block and a half from the Bay Bridge on-ramp, flanked by surface parking lots, in a stretch of SoMa that sees heavy foot and vehicle traffic even late at night.
Multiple officers responded and located two male suspects near the scene. SFPD developed probable cause to arrest both men. Authorities identified them as Edwin Depaz Maldonado, 19, of Richmond, and Andy Segura Giron, 20, of San Rafael. Maldonado was booked on suspicion of murder and resisting arrest. Giron was booked on suspicion of assault likely to produce great bodily injury.
The SFPD Homicide Detail has taken over the investigation.
Friday’s killing marks San Francisco’s 13th homicide of 2026, following two other killings earlier the same week. The pace has drawn renewed attention to public safety in a city that has seen consistent pressure on police resources and neighborhood stability.
The SoMa and Rincon Hill corridor has now seen two homicides in roughly two months. In February, a man was found dead near the Bay Bridge entrance at Harrison and Second streets on Super Bowl night. That victim was later identified as Curnal, an East Bay rapper. A few blocks and a few weeks separate those two scenes, a pattern that residents and community advocates in the area will likely press city officials to address.
SoMa has long been a neighborhood of contrasts. It holds some of the city’s most expensive office space and some of its most vulnerable residents side by side. Longtime community members, service workers, and people experiencing homelessness share blocks with tech companies, nightclubs, and commuter parking lots. Violence in the area rarely fits a simple story, and it rarely affects only one slice of the community.
The two additional assault victims from Friday’s incident were not identified, and details about their conditions were not immediately released. It is also unclear at this time whether the shooting and the assaults were all connected to a single confrontation, or what preceded the violence.
While arrests have been made, SFPD emphasized that the investigation remains active and open. Anyone with information is asked to call the department’s tip line at 415-575-4444. Tips can also be submitted by texting TIP411 and beginning the message with “SFPD.” Callers and texters can remain anonymous.
San Francisco has seen renewed debate over policing and public safety resources heading into spring, even as city leadership continues to grapple with budget pressures and staffing shortages at SFPD. Neighborhood organizations across SoMa and the broader South of Market area have repeatedly called for more community investment alongside law enforcement responses, arguing that safety is not just a police question but a housing, mental health, and economic one.
For a neighborhood that has absorbed decades of displacement and transformation, another homicide on a Friday night carries weight beyond the crime statistics. Families, small business owners, and residents who depend on those blocks feel each incident, even when the headlines move on quickly.
SFPD has not released the identity of the homicide victim, pending notification of next of kin. The investigation continues.
