San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission Gets New President

San Francisco labor attorney and Bayview business owner Kat Anderson has been appointed as the new presiding president of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission, succeeding Mark Buell, who resigned upon his appointment to the San Francisco Airport Commission.

Anderson has been vice president of the commission for three years and will automatically become president according to commission bylaws. She will serve in that capacity until an election occurs within the commission, scheduled for Sept. 21. This marks the first time in 13 years that the commission has a new president.

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission is responsible for over 220 parks, playgrounds, and open spaces throughout San Francisco and two outside the city limits. The commission is a policy-making body charged with overseeing the management, operations, and maintenance of the city’s parks and recreation facilities.

Anderson is a commissioner of the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, appointed by the Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco to serve as one of seven commissioners. She has been vice president of the commission for three years before being appointed as the new presiding president. Anderson is also a labor attorney and Bayview business owner.

Kat Anderson’s appointment as the new presiding president of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission marks the first time in 13 years that the commission has a new president. Anderson’s background in labor law and business, as well as her previous involvement with the commission, make her a strong candidate for the position. As the commission continues to oversee the management of San Francisco’s parks and recreation facilities, Anderson’s leadership will be critical in ensuring that these spaces remain accessible and enjoyable for all residents and visitors.
